Under the rules approved by the SSI multi-stakeholder board, from January 1, 2027, at least 80% of photovoltaic modules entering the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and the UK must come from production sites certified to SSI's environmental, social and governance (ESG) and supply chain traceability standards; by January 1, 2028, this proportion will be increased to 100%.
The new regulations also require that, starting April 1, 2026, SSI member companies must submit to the Secretariat a list of all their operating production sites, including their locations, the annual production capacity of each site, and the dates and results of planned ESG and supply chain traceability assessments. The SSI will publish an anonymized, comprehensive report based on this information.
SSI was established in 2022, jointly launched by SolarPower Europe (SPE) and Solar Energy UK. Its members currently cover over 70% of global PV manufacturing capacity, including over 85GW of certified module production capacity.
